Literary Focus: Gentleman of Rio en Medio

9) This story is told from the point of view of a narrator who is a character in the story. How might this story differ if Don Anselmo were the narrator?

The story is told from the point of view of a narrator who is a character in the story, so it might be different from Don Anselmo’s point of view. His story might talk more about his feeling.  It would be more specific about how he sold the land, and why did he sell with low price. He also might talk about the Americans (what they looked like, what was the purpose for them to buy that land). He also might show how he was a gentleman, or a kind man. That is what I think Don Anselmo story might be.

Question: Do you think Terry made the right decision about questioning his father on his experiences in Vietnam? Why or why not?

I think that Terry made the right decision about questioning his father on his experiences in Vietnam. I think it is right because he would never know the reason of what happened to his dad’s eyes. Before he asked his dad, he was embarrassed by him. But after he had asked questions, he started to understand how his dad felt. He didn’t feel embarrassed anymore. Trying to understand how your family members feel is good. Understand more means you getting along with each others more. Try your best to understand and know how they feel and so get along with each others and no more embarrassing by each others.

The Love Story

FIRST LOVE

“Here he comes!” Jin Ae who had a crush on Jung Su was standing in the middle of the hallway in Korean International High School. She gave her hands out while holding a letter and gave it to Jung Su. Jung Su was a genius boy, who had the highest number of IQ in the school. He always had been on the top 10 list of the school. He had stolen away lots of the girls’ heart in school. There was the only one reason that Jin Ae afraid of Jung Su was she totally opposite him. She couldn’t understand what the teachers tried to teach her. Her class had always on the last list of the school. She gave it to him, and he accepted it without saying a word. Jung Su didn’t know who Jin Ae was, so he couldn’t reply the letter. Her best friend was trying to make Jun Su notice Jin Ae by kept calling her name. Jung Su noticed that in the letter it said Jin Ae, so he turned back and came toward her. Jin Ae was both scared and excited, because she couldn’t wait for his answer.
“I don’t like people who are stupid like you, and by the way, you spelled some words wrong.” Jung Su said while gave back the letter to her. Jin Ae was embarrassed in front of the whole school, but she didn’t cry.
On that day, Jin Ae moved to her new house, so her friends came and helped her. Unfortunately, on the same day there was a small earthquake. Her house was the only house that fallen down into pieces. She had to pack all her things again, but didn’t know where to go. Her dad’s best friend saw Jin Ae and his dad on TV, his best friend called her dad. She didn’t know that her dad’s best friend’s son was Jung Su, who she had a crush on.
Jin Ae and her dad came over. Her dad’s best friend welcomed them. They helped them packed the entire thing, but her dad refused.
“Yah let me help you. It looks like it really heavy.” Her dad’s best friend said.
“No, it’s ok! I can do it. Thanks for letting us stay here.” Her dad replied. They had one son, and he also came and helped. Jung Su was her dad’s best friend’s son. He came and asked Jin Ae,
“Do you need help?”
“No, thank you, I can do it by myself.” Jin Ae answered, without noticed Jung Su. She turned back and saw Jung Su behind her. She was shocked and asked him what he was doing here. He told her that was his house. Jung Su said that he was unlucky since he met her. He also told her that she couldn’t tell her friends where she lived now. Jin Ae said she understood him, and promised she won’t tell anyone.
Jung Su’s mom really liked Jin Ae; she tried to make them fell in love with each other. One day, his mom came to Jin Ae’s room and talked to her. She asked Jin Ae if she had her pictures when she was little. Jin Ae said yes and showed it to her. Then Jung Su’s mom told her she had something to showed Jin Ae, and pulled out the pictures of Jung Su when he was little with girl clothes on him. Jin Ae took one of the pictures, and showed to Jung Su the next day in school. Jung Su asked her to give it back, but Jin Ae said she had one condition. He asked what it is, and she told him that he had to tutor her at home if he wanted the picture back. He agreed. Every night, Jung Su came over to Jin Ae’s room, and helped her with studying. Jung Su was tired, so he slept while teaching her. Jin Ae said thank you to him because he had helped her a lot. That she even jumped from the last list in school to the top 50 students in school. But Jung Su didn’t know she said thank you. After Jin Ae finished her homework, she fell asleep next to Jung Su. Jung Su woke up, and saw Jin Ae was sleeping; he took a blanket and covered her. Then he kissed her on the cheek. He didn’t know that her mom was standing there took some pictures.
“Hehehe, he kissed her! I’m so proud of him” She was talking to herself, then she left the room. Then Jun Su stood up and went back to his room. His mom came into Jin Ae’s room again, and put one picture inside the book.
The next day in school, Jin Ae was reading the book, and the picture dropped on the floor. One of her friend saw the picture, came toward and picked it up. She showed everyone in the class, and even posted it on the internet. Jin Ae didn’t know anything, and she was too embarrassed that she couldn’t stand still. Jung Su also heard the rumor, and ran to Jin Ae’s classroom. He asked Jin Ae if she spread the rumor, she said she didn’t know anything. Jung Su didn’t believe her and walked away. At night, Jung Su heard Jin Ae talking to her best friend on the phone about the rumor. He found out that she didn’t lie to him. He came to her room, and said sorry to her. She asked him why didn’t he believe her, but he didn’t answer. Still, she accepted the sorry. At that time, her feeling for Jung Su had gone because he didn’t believe what she said. Then how could she like him? That was the question that Jin Ae had asked herself. Jin Ae didn’t realize that Jung Su liked her, because he never showed it.
In the next morning, Jung Su’s mom told him to take Jin Ae somewhere and hangout. He agreed, but Jin Ae refused. Still, Jung Su made Jin Ae to go. They had fun together. At the end of the day, Jung Su kissed her, and so Jin Ae realized that he liked her. Her feeling for Jung Su had come back.

My Little Sister

I have just rewritten my LA homework. In a moment, I am shocked when the person sitting next to me, my beloved little sister, intentionally shut down my computer. Can you believe that? It is definitely not the first time she does it and I think I have been giving her a lot of clemency. I hope she will rehabilitate herself into a cuter sister, but she disappoints me intermittently. However, even if she continues doing that, I will not be mad at her because she is my little sister. Sometimes, I do think that my sister is cute. Other times, she is too annoying. For another example, when I tried to talk to her, she tries to ignore me. But I know that, she just pretends, so that is why I’m not getting mad at her. In the end, she stills my beloved sister.

Personal Narrative

Story of Me
“Are you ok, Tina?” Tien asked.
“I think I’m ok.” I replied.
I got used to it. But this time was another story. My bleeding nose hurts so much that my hands immediately cover my face to stop it from spinning around.
The story happened when I was in seventh grade; my friends and I were playing around in the schoolyard. After we had had fun, we sat down on a bench, and talked. While I was talking with my friends, Tyler came, and teased me. He said something but I actually forgot them, so I chased him around the yard with a basket-ball in my hands.
At the time when I was chasing him, Johnny and Tyler were passing the basketball back and forth. For a while, when Tyler had the ball in his hands, immediately he kicked the ball back to Johnny instead of throwing back, because it is basketball. I was standing in front of Tyler’s face, I think the distance is just around one meter, and I was hoping that he knew that I was standing there. He kicked the ball, and as soon as he kicked it, the ball flew straight to my face. This happened so fast, that I can feel the wind was blowing, and strong. I thought I was fine at first, so, I walking towards, but then my nose started to bleed, and the feeling of pain started to come. I was almost fall down to the ground, but then I found my balance back again, I didn’t even moving an inch because it hurts so much. As I expect, I yelled, and my tears fall.
Mindy was right next to me, and she thought the ball would hit her face, but it didn’t, I hit mine. My friends were all freaked out; they didn’t know what to do, so they walked me to the lobby and Mindy ran to the bathroom and took some tissues for me. The security told them to walk me to the nurse room. So they did.
The nurse went home, and no one was there, only some of the office ladies. They helped me to haemostatic, but the blood didn’t stop, it took a very long time for it to stop. My head was spinning, but they put some ice on my forehead, it hurts more and I almost faint. My head was freezing; I didn’t know what to do, but just staring at the ceiling. They told me to stay at home the next day, but I did not
While I was in the nurse room, a security came in and told me I had to go home. Got into the car, my tears fell again, so did the blood. It took another thirty minutes for it to stop bleeding. Then I fell asleep.
Before this happened, if I got hit by the ball, and someone come to teased me, I would throw the ball to that person right away, but now I know what it likes so I’m not going to do that. After this accident, I couldn’t sleep at all, because I keep imagine, and think about it. Sometimes, I even had a nightmare about it, that someone would come to me and throw the ball straight to my face. That is not the only thing that happened to me. Another thing is that I go scared whenever someone played soccer, because I’m afraid that the ball would fly to me again, and because that when you play soccer, we have to use our feet, and it is hard to controls the ball. If you see me just stand there and do nothing while people playing soccer, don’t be surprised. It did happen to me, I just stand there, but the ball still fly to me, no matter where I stand. However I still can play basketball normally, maybe because I think that when we played we know how to controls the ball with our hands.

Literary Focus: Connect

Question:What do you think about people who dislike others who are different from them?

In my opinion, people who dislike others who are different from them are bad. For example, Joe Carp and Frank Reilly are friends of Charlie, and they are both smarter than Charlie, and Charlie is not smart as them, so they always making fun of him. Charlie always think his friends are nice people,  but his friends didn't think of him that way, they think the opposite, they always tease him and make fun of him in front of people. At first, Charlie didn't know that his friends were making fun of him, but after he got operation, he got smarter, and knows that his friends are not good people, and always making fun of him. After the operation, his friends avoid from Charlie, and didn't want him to work at the factory anymore, just because he is smarter than others. Also, his friends are jealous of Charlie. Joe Carp and Frank Reilly don't deserve to be Charlie's friends, because they should be happy for him when he got smarter, but they don't, they avoid him. That is just my opinion, others may have different opinion.
